Tamagotchi Original P1/P2 Clear blue Bandai 1997 boxed

The first version of the tamagotchi is the forerunner of Bandai’s virtual pets.
Released in 1996 and 1997, it sold millions of units worldwide, despite its basic operation and three little buttons.
Now retired from the shelves, it remains a sought-after product for collectors and nostalgic fans.
The first version of the tamagotchi can be divided into two generations: the P1 and the P2. The P1 was the first to be marketed, and it was in view of its success that the P2 was released. The difference between the two is slight, apart from a different design and a different birth/death screen.

This version was a huge success, and a large number of special editions were produced:

• Various special editions were released for promotional purposes. These include Toei Anime Fair, NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone), Morigana, JAL, Lotte and McDonald’s.
• Collector’s editions supplied to Bandai shareholders: silver metallic, gold metallic, silver ribbon, gold ribbon.
• Special editions with Asian designs. These are hull designs celebrating the different countries of the Asia-Pacific/Oceania zones. There are 12 of these: Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, three versions for China, India, New Zealand and Vietnam.
